Your Dog’s First Grooming: What to Expect

Booking your dog’s first grooming appointment can bring up plenty of questions. Which service should you choose? What should you bring? How long will your pup be at the salon?

At BarkSuds Sugar Land, we want you to feel comfortable before you walk through the door. Here’s what to expect when you visit our locally owned salon.

Choose the care your pup needs

Every visit starts with choosing the right service for your dog.

Bath S’Paw covers bath and hygiene care, including:

  • Bath and blow-dry

  • Brush-out and basic de-shedding

  • Nail care and ear cleaning

  • Teeth brushing

For pups who need trimming, we offer two optional grooming add-ons:

Dapper Dog is a tidy-up with light trimming around the face, paws, tushy, and sanitary areas.

All Over Rover adds a full-body haircut to your Bath S’Paw visit.

These grooming services cost extra. They are optional add-ons, not separate membership plans. If you’re unsure which service to book, call us at 832-539-6813.

You don’t need a membership

One-time visits are always welcome. You can try BarkSuds Sugar Land before deciding whether regular visits fit your routine.

Bath S’Paw memberships start at $45 per month, with pricing based on your dog’s weight and visits available up to once a week. Coat type does not change your membership price. One-time bath pricing varies by weight and coat type.

Haircuts and other optional upgrades are charged separately.

Before your appointment

Have your dog’s current rabies and Bordetella vaccination records available for our team to verify before the visit.

Please tell us about anything that may affect your dog’s care, including sensitive areas, recent surgery, skin concerns, or nervousness during grooming.

You’re welcome to bring your dog’s medicated shampoo at no extra charge. Share any instructions from your veterinarian, including how long it should stay on before rinsing.

If you’re booking a haircut, bring a photo of the look you have in mind. It can help you explain your preferences during check-in.

Tell us what matters to you

At drop-off, let our team know your priorities. Do you want to keep the ears long? Prefer a shorter body? Want help choosing a manageable style?

Your dog’s coat condition matters, too. Mention any tangles or matting you’ve noticed so we can discuss what may be practical for the appointment.

Ask about pricing and optional services before leaving so you understand what your visit includes.

Allow time for your pup’s care

Please plan for approximately:

  • 1–2 hours for a bath

  • 3–4 hours for a full haircut

These are estimated appointment lengths. Ask our team about pickup timing when you check in.
